Marcus Scruggs | 81

Marc Scruggs has lived in San Francisco since the 60s. On his brother’s recommendation, he made his way here and soon met his partner, Harry, on a beach in San Francisco. On their initial meeting they almost lost sight of each other in the fog. Unfortunately, Harry died within a year of these interviews, and Marc was still grieving tremendously. Marc is known by friends for his work promoting nonviolent communication strategies to build community, and his expansive, generous, and loving nature really come through in the interview. He has also appeared in some films over his career.

Marc is someone who has loved San Francisco in part because he has never felt like an outsider here. As a gay man, he has had many challenges being accepted, and he shares the recent experience of spending time with a younger relative who is comfortable with his gay identity and how joyful it was to see that.
