Les Martin | 80

Les Martin was lucky to have an activity he could fall back on during the pandemic— running— a sport he only started to get into in his 50s. Les had, as of the interview, run 106 marathons in the prior 18 years. While competing got more difficult during the pandemic, the ability to get out and run remained, especially around Ocean Beach. The wildfires put a huge wrench in his plans to celebrate his 80th birthday with his grandson to climb Mount Whitney together, but Les remained upbeat and grateful for the chance at his age to be outdoors with his grandchildren and to be able to enjoy whatever he can of the activities he loves: running, climbing, and traveling.
