Riyo Kunisawa was born in San Francisco and grew up in Japantown with her parents and siblings. During World War II they were imprisoned in interment camps, an experience that forged her identity. She has been a straightforward person all her life and that hasn’t changed. She does not really want to spend time with people who she doesn’t enjoy spending time with. We are glad we made the cut, at least for long enough to get this interview! She lives in an assisted living in the city.
