Jeanne Halpern l 85

Jeanne Halpern was a Professor of English in the midwest, a job she held while a single mother and one that took her to the west coast via Stanford. However, she picked up a new career in her 50s that brought her to San Francisco. She has been known in San Francisco for her garden in Glen Park and her passion as a hike leader with the Bay Chapter of the Sierra Club. She met her partner, Louis, of 22 years on a trail and they led many group hikes together. She currently loves the community, activities, and close friends she has at Rhoda Goldman Plaza, an assisted living that is her home. Her life has been characterized by her curiosity, and her groys aoygn, "big eyes” in Yiddish. “My mother always said, Your problem is you see all these things you want to do? Just focus on one. And I can't do it.
